In the tragic case of a fatality or animal strike, you need an experienced and dedicated team.
For most people outside the rail industry, it’s not a subject that comes up in everyday conversation. But sadly, it is an (almost) everyday occurrence. We’re talking about trauma on the rail network caused by human or large animal fatality. Network Rail and the train operators themselves make great efforts to reduce the likelihood and impact of such incidents. They also have contingency plans in place to deal with trauma as soon as it occurs. We work with rail operators across the country to deal with human and animal fatality management delicately yet decisively.
Dealing with difficult situations
When the worst happens, React's experienced trauma team will provide a professional and respectful service. Our priority is to return rolling stock to full service as quickly as possible in an appropriate time frame. Train operators can simply notify our control room as soon as an incident has occurred, and they will alert the closest trauma team. In the case of a human fatality, they will remain on call and ready to respond as soon as the British Transport Police and the local mortician have concluded their work.
Once the train is released back to the operator, our local trauma response team will attend at the Train Management Centre or depot. They will conduct a thorough cleaning of the affected engine units or carriages. The team will be fully equipped and are qualified for underframe cleaning, where inspection pit access allows for this. Our team will provide a fast and respectful response in every situation.
Rail trauma cleaning that keeps everything on track
Post-trauma clean-ups can be challenging, physically and emotionally. That’s why we take the health, safety and wellbeing of our team very seriously. We ensure team members are physically fit and fully immunised. We provide and promote free 24/7 access to a telephone counselling service, and where needed, staff can attend face-to-face support sessions too.
In the tragic case of human or animal fatality on the rail network, train operators need a specialist cleaning team who can take on the challenge. There’s no reason to make a tough situation any more traumatic than it already is. We can be there on the double to deal sensitively and swiftly with the aftermath of any fatality.
