Standards are vital for the Group. Sam Waddington, Group SHEQ Officer, shares the importance of gaining these certifications and the work involved in obtaining them.
Following the expansion of REACT Group PLC in the past couple of years, the team and I have undertaken the significant task of lining-up all Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) policies, procedures and operational performance with industry best practice, in the form of obtaining formal certifications.
Like an early Christmas present, in December 2024 all that hard work paid off as REACT Specialist Cleaning, Fidelis and LaddersFree were formally certified in ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.Â
Being awarded these ISO standards by a UKAS-accredited certification body (we used DNV) demonstrates that we are working according to, and being audited against, SHEQ standards that are internationally-recognised as best practice by governments and companies worldwide.Â
This builds trust with all of our customers, who can be assured that our work is carried out to the highest standards. Equally, it gives the whole team a sense of achievement and pride - especially given the sheer amount of effort that went into the certification process.
The work involved
Â
Reaching this point required many steps, such as investing in new services and systems, robust reviews of risk assessments, policies and procedures, the implementation of new safety, environmental and quality measures, extensive internal and external auditing to identify improvements and improving the overall culture surrounding SHEQ.Â
Â
Suffice to say, the work involved in this project has touched the entire team - from operational level, all the way up to the company directors - to whom I’m hugely thankful.Â
Our incredible operatives have taken onboard all the new changes to processes that have affected their activities. Managers have implemented processes that keep themselves and their operatives safe. Directors are fully aware of their responsibilities, ensuring that all appropriate resources are available for the successful implementation of SHEQ management systems.
A continual process
Â
Looking forward, the next steps are continuing to improve our SHEQ management systems and processes. We’re also working to line up management systems with our recent acquisition, 24hr Aquaflow Services Ltd, with the aim of achieving ISO 45001 to complement their existing 9001 and 14001 certifications.
Personally, I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to everyone within the whole business for their efforts in assisting with this project, for putting changes into practice and helping to bring about this accomplishment.Â
