A good HACCP system will protect food from biological, chemical, and physical hazards.

For reasons of commercial confidentiality, we can’t always reveal the name of our clients. Much of our work may also be sensitive from the standpoint of security. But we sometimes want to share details of our projects to illustrate our profound commitment to specialist cleaning. We recently undertook a deep cleaning assignment at a new food production facility for a client. Here’s how we approached the task.

Food hygiene standards of the highest order

First off, it’s vital to make sure that the facility exceeds the standards that are expected of food preparation facilities. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is responsible for food safety and food hygiene in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. It works with local authorities to enforce food safety regulations and its staff work to check standards are being met. The FSA undertakes regular inspections, so we want to help our clients prepare their food production facilities to pass muster.

To ensure the highest levels of food preparation hygiene are ongoing, companies must have robust procedures in place. This includes hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP), which is a systematic preventive approach to food safety. A good HACCP system will protect food from biological, chemical, and physical hazards in production processes that could cause the finished product to be unsafe. For each risk point, food preparation companies will design measures to reduce these risks to a safe level. And throughout any HACCP regime, cleaning must be a key consideration.

How to deep clean food preparation facilities properly

It’s especially important to get cleaning right from the get-go when a new facility opens. Our work with our client was no exception. In this case, to ensure that the facility is suitable for food production, we provided a full food standard deep clean. We started by cleaning hard surfaces across a number of rooms, from ceilings, walls and floors to all stainless steel production equipment. We used a variety of methods, focusing mainly on high-level cleaning equipment such as pressure washers.

Of course, everyone expects that their food will be safe to eat. This has to start with companies producing food in the most scrupulously clean facilities. That’s why React Specialist Cleaning is on hand to work with our clients to deliver a safe and hygienic environment for food preparation.
